The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Rosary follows a weekly cycle, with different mysteries assigned to each day. Each set contains five mysteries from the life of Christ. There are five decades on the Rosary. On each decade- you meditate on a Mystery.

The Sorrowful Mysteries are one of the four sets of mysteries in the Holy Rosary, a profound Catholic prayer that meditates on key events in the life of Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother, Mary. They focus on the Passion—the suffering and death of Our Lord, and are traditionally prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays (and daily duringLent).

This mystery recalls Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before His death. After the Last Supper, He goes to pray with His disciples, but they're sleepy and leave Him alone. Jesus knows what's coming—betrayal, torture, and crucifixion—and He's overwhelmed with sorrow. He prays to God the Father, "Let this cup pass from me," but submits, saying, "Not my will, but yours be done." An angel comforts Him, and He sweats blood from the stress. This shows Jesus' humanity—He felt fear and pain like us—but also His perfect obedience. When praying this, think about times you've faced hard choices or suffering, and ask for strength to say "yes" to God's plan.

Opening Prayers

Make the Sign of the Cross:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Three Hail Marys (for faith, hope, and charity):

Closing Prayers

Hail Holy Queen:

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Closing Prayer:

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Make the Sign of the Cross:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Congratulations! You have completed praying the Rosary with the Sorrowful Mysteries. May this prayer deepen your union with Christ in His passion and bring you closer to His redeeming love.

Pope John Paul II was a profound advocate for the Rosary. In his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae (2002), he wrote:

"The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christocentric prayer. In the sobriety of its elements, it has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety."

He emphasized that the Rosary is not merely a repetitive prayer but a meditation on the life of Christ through the eyes of Mary. He encouraged families to pray the Rosary together, calling it "a prayer for peace" and a spiritual weapon against evil.

Our Mission

At our core, we are dedicated to placing a rosary the hands of every Christian. Our mission is to inspire daily prayer, encouraging individuals to connect with their faith through the power of the Rosary. We believe that with each prayer, we can foster a deeper relationship with God and strengthen our communities. Join us in this journey of devotion and transformation.
