The Glorious Mysteries

The Rosary follows a weekly cycle, with different mysteries assigned to each day. Each set contains five mysteries from the life of Christ. There are five decades on the Rosary. On each decade- you meditate on a Mystery.

The Glorious Mysteries are one of the four sets of mysteries in the Holy Rosary, a powerful Catholic prayer thatcontemplates key events in the life of Jesus Christ and His Mother, Mary. These mysteries focus on the triumph of Christ over death and the eternal glory that awaits the faithful, emphasizing resurrection, heaven, and divine power. They are traditionally prayed on Wednesdays and Sundays (and daily during Eastertide). For someone new to  the  Faith  (a convert),  I'll    cover the basics: the event, its meaning, and practical meditation tips.

For along standing Catholic, I'll dive into deeper theology, spiritual fruits, scriptural connections, and insights from Church Tradition and saints to deepen your devotion.

This mystery recounts Jesus rising from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion. Mary Magdalene and other women find the tomb empty, guarded by an angel who announces, "He is not here; He has risen!" Jesus appears to them and later to His disciples. This is the core of Christianity—proof that Jesus conquered sin and death, offering us eternal life. It brings hope in dark times. When praying, think of your own "resurrections" from struggles, and ask for stronger faith in God's promises.

Opening Prayers

Make the Sign of the Cross:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Apostles' Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Three Hail Marys (for faith, hope, and charity):

Closing Prayers

Hail Holy Queen:

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Closing Prayer:

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Make the Sign of the Cross:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Congratulations! You have completed praying the Rosary with the Glorious Mysteries. May this prayer fill you with the joy and hope of Christ's resurrection and the glory of His kingdom.

Pope Benedict XVI continued this tradition, frequently praying the Rosary publicly and encouraging the faithful to do likewise. He stated:

"The Rosary is a prayer that is always timely and never out of date. With the Rosary we allow ourselves to be guided by Mary, the model of faith." He emphasized the Rosary as a contemplative prayer that helps believers enter into the mysteries of Christ's life, death, and resurrection.
